From one airframe to a wider project
Dakota 12253
The roots of Canadian Dakotas can be traced directly to Dakota 12253. Benoit de Mulder acquired the aircraft and began documenting its history. The aircraft was later sold to Mikey McBryan of Buffalo Airways, and Benoit subsequently participated in its restoration.
Working at that level of detail raised a larger question: could the same approach be used to reconstruct the complete histories of the other Dakota-family aircraft that served in Canada? Canadian Dakotas developed from that question.

Benoit de Mulder is also the creator of Avialogs, a project dedicated to preserving and providing access to historical aviation documentation. It reflects the same interest that drives Canadian Dakotas: safeguarding primary material, organizing historical information and making it useful.
